Bill Koehne, owner of Packerland Websites, presents a stocking filled with a free website to Ruth Paquin, representing the Volunteer Center of Brown County. The Volunteer Center won Packerland Websites’ Give Back to Nonprofits contest: a Premium Theme, 7-page website valued at $2,500.

Congratulations to the Volunteer Center of Brown County, the winner of a free website awarded by Packerland Websites, an Abrams-based company specializing in website design and digital marketing strategies. In Packerland Websites’ Give Back to Nonprofits contest, the Volunteer Center won a newly designed Premium Theme, seven-page website valued at $2,500.

“We’re excited to award the prize to this worthwhile organization,” said Packerland Websites’ owner Bill Koehne. “Volunteers are the heart of a community, so this is a gift that keeps on giving.”

Eric Sponholtz, executive director of the Volunteer Center, said the free website will attract new groups, demographics, and individuals who are looking to give back to their community.

“The Volunteer Center realizes the need for volunteer opportunities to be readily available online in this world of technology” he said.

Every year, the center matches over 10,000 volunteers with over 180 local nonprofits. Additionally, the center’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) places over 300 volunteers in 28 different organizations, and the Reading Coaches for Kids program places over 80 volunteers in four different school districts, assisting over 250 children.

“We applaud the efforts of the Volunteer Center of Brown County and look forward to creating an effective, secure, and user-friendly website,” Bill said.

Youth to Present ‘Elf the Musical Jr’ in Abrams

Elf the Musical Jr Cast
Elf the Musical Jr Cast

Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. is spreading Christmas cheer with the comedy “Elf The Musical Jr.” Based on a 2003 hit movie, this fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. The show features an all-youth cast, songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, and a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

“Doing a musical based on a movie can be hit or miss,” Director Elizbeth Jolly said. “Including enough of the movie while adding music and deepening the emotions for the stage is not an easy task. Elf really hits the nail on the head. I mean, when you have a show-stopping number called “sparklejollytwinklejingley,” you know you’re going to be in for a good time.”

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 and 14, and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 15, at the Nancy Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple St., Abrams. A limited number of tickets are available at AbramsTheater.com or by calling the box office, 920-826-5852.

Jolly said Elf contradicts the misconception that quality doesn’t matter in a kids’ show.

“I think that sells children short,” she said. “We are not just depending on their cuteness, although they are all adorable. The cast is intelligent, talented, and has put in a lot of work to make this a high quality, spectacular production.”

“Elf The Musical Jr.” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).  All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019 Phone: 212-541-4684 Fax: 212-397-4684 www.MTIShows.com.
