Shrek The Musical – Abrams Theater – NOW AUDITIONING

ShrekAbrams Spotlight Productions, Inc. will holding open auditions for their next musical, Shrek The Musical (Music by Jeanine Tesori, Book & Lyrics By David Lindsay-Abaire, Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig) on January 13 & 14, 2016 – 6:00pm-8:00pm at The Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple Street, Abrams.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears. “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

Actors age 8 and older are welcome to audition. Prepare an upbeat song from a musical to sing (not a song from Shrek The Musical). You will learn and perform a dance routine in small groups at the audition. You must audition in order to be in the show, no late entries will be allowed. Rehearsals will generally be on Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday nights beginning in January. Show dates are scheduled for April 15-17 & 22-24, 2016. Please consider your availability for all rehearsals and show dates, and your level of commitment before auditioning. We are always looking for Backstage and Front of House Crew Members as well. For more information call Brandon Byng at (920) 826-5852.

Oconto Falls High School Drama Team will present “Alice”

12063769_1204216792927009_1607215098037905726_nThe Oconto Falls High School Drama Team will present “Alice” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center. Prior to the show, the drama club will hold its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5-6:45 p.m. in the high school commons.

“Alice” is a one-act adaptation of the famous Lewis Carroll novel “Alice in Wonderland.” The curious young girl Alice, played by senior Leah Wons, follows the White Rabbit (Andrea Spang) down the rabbit hole into Wonderland, where she meets a cornucopia of strange creatures.

A caterpillar (Peter Murphy) gives advice, the Mad Hatter and March Hare (Eja Sweig and Victoria Bain-Vrba) are always at tea time, and the Queen of Hearts (Kiana Archiquette) continually cries, “Off with her head!” The Cheshire Cat, portrayed collectively by Andrea Shamburek, Jennifer Deau and Madison Pecha, says that everyone in Wonderland is mad; and, therefore, Alice must be, too. Has Alice lost her head? Only the Cheshire Cat knows for sure.

The remaining members of the 2015 Drama Team are Adeline Pumplun, Ethan Winkler, Aliza Dickinson, Mara Grasse, Addison Hatch, Mackenzie Staidl, Rylee Krumrei, Jen Longsine, Kaitlin Kramarczyk and Paige Bain-Vrba. They are coached by faculty director Gayle Gander, with technical support by Ashley Baeten, Alex Radke, Rayne Winans and Camden Jackson. Wons is student director for the production.

Tickets will be available at the door for the cost of $8 for dinner and show or $5 for the show only. For information, call the theatre department at 920-848-4467, ext. 2092, or the high school main office, 920-848-4467.
