MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE presents PINOCCHIO

MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE presents PINOCCHIO

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2013 • 3:00 PM & 7:00 PM • FALLS AREA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

TICKETS:  $11 ADULTS/$6 STUDENTS

All tickets subject to a $2 processing fee.

Join Missoula Children’s Theatre and 50 area children as they present PINOCCHIO.

Geppetto fashioned the puppet in the image of a small boy.  Even as the lonely and kind woodcarver worked far into the night, old Geppetto was not aware that the wood under the chisel had come from the trunk of an enchanted tree.  But the Blue Fairy was aware, as she watched from afar and gave to that puppet the gift of life.  Thus begins the Missoula Children’s Theatre adaptation of one of the most beloved of all children’s stories – PINOCCHIO.  Join our wooden-head as he dances with Geppetto’s charming toys, travels the road to Pleasure Isle with Candlewick and his Crew, and is swindled by the unsavory Fox and Cat.  After escaping the clutches of the evil puppetmaster, Stromboli, Pinocchio finds himself in trouble once more – this time swallowed by a monstrous whale. Very scary stuff! As Geppetto and the friendly Urchins spin their magical tale, we learn with Pinocchio that there are no shortcuts on the road to becoming a real, live boy.  This event is sponsored in part by CENTURYLINK and NEVA HODGE-LEMORANDE.

Greetings,
Spring is here! It’s time to enjoy the great outdoor in Northeast Wisconsin. The preparation has started in anticipation of warm weather activities, such as fishing, swimming and boating on the Oconto River. The Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is ready to help create some excitement in the community with a few projects this year.

The Flag Project has begun. Letters will be sent out this week. Donations of $75 will sponsor a 3X5 American Flag, Pole and Bracket. The addition of American flags on streets of Main, Union, Chestnut, Highland, Maple and Green Bay will help decorate our city.

The Boat Raffle will begin at our membership meeting on Thursday May 16th at 12 pm at Oconto Falls City Hall. The proceeds from the raffle will go toward beautification and new welcome signs for the city.

•    Relationship development with the cities of Oconto Falls, Oconto, their surrounding areas and Oconto County is a great foundation for economic stability. Working together has begun with the Highway 22 project planning in Oconto Falls, shared events (golf outing with the Oconto Chamber), and the speaker for our meeting Paul Ehrfurth from OCEDC will give us some insight on the development of the county.

•    Updates to our welcome packets, by-laws, website and Facebook account are in progress or complete. Please check the website, read the meeting minutes and attend the meetings to receive information or to share your thoughts and ideas.

I encourage all members to promote the area and all it has to offer.

Let’s make Oconto Falls and the surrounding area the place to be.

Sincerely,
Gail Yatso

CMH Falls Prevention Success Shared at State Conference

Preventing patient falls is a high priority at Community Memorial Hospital, and hospitals across the state had the opportunity to learn from its recent success at the Wisconsin Hospital Association “Partners for Patients” conference.

Community Memorial Hospital was one of three hospitals in the state on an expert panel presentation of best practices for preventing patient falls. Colleen Koski, RN, represented CMH as a key team leader in the CMH falls prevention program which has successfully reduced the patient falls rate by 50% since 2008.

The CMH initiative involves three important steps in falls prevention. The first is having a standardized process for identifying patients who are at risk of falls. Second is strict adherence to established protocols which include patient placement in rooms closest to the nurses station, activation of chair and bed alarms, and use of bright yellow colored identifying blankets, socks, wristbands, and door markers which help all hospital staff identify at-risk patients on sight. The third component is hourly rounding, or patient checks.

“We promote a culture of safety with a hospital-wide approach to falls prevention to achieve a heightened awareness of all caregivers from every discipline.” said Koski.

The CMH falls prevention team consists of Carol Winegarden, RN, Director of Quality Services; Colleen Koski, RN, Patient Care Services Manager; Tim Soper, RN; Paula Bake, RN; and Deb Wesolowski, RN.

“By getting involved in the Partners for Patients initiative, we saw an opportunity for sharing of best practices with other hospitals,” said Koski. “We shared our strategies for success, and we learned some new ideas for taking the next step in falls prevention, community outreach beyond the hospital setting.”

The state conference, “Catch the Wisconsin Wave,” hosted by the Wisconsin Hospital Association, is part of the “Partners for Patients” national program to promote patient safety and reduce incidence of injury or complication in the hospital setting. Achieving program targets could save up to $35 billion across the nation’s health care system over three years, including up to $10 billion for Medicare alone, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
