I started my Mary Kay business in 1994 while working a full-time job. I never dreamed that someday I would be able to quit working my full-time job and do what I was truly passionate about. I love my Mary Kay! My customers and all the friendships that I created along the way are priceless. I have grown as a person by using the education and training available in the areas of setting goals, time management, financial management, and personal relationships. What I’ve learned has affected my self-esteem and confidence, which in turn has affected my daughter.

My typical work day consist of phone work, customer service, deliveries and holding parties. We have a full social media and online presence with Mary Kay and are the largest online cosmetic sales company in the world. Sharing our marketing plan and the Mary Kay opportunity is the best part! My training is ongoing throughout the year at local events, regional career conference in Madison, WI and national educational & recognition opportunities with Mary Kay Seminar in Dallas, TX.

The most enjoyable part of this fun job is seeing the smiles on my client’s faces when they realize Mary Kay products deliver! Our skin care and glamour products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed! The personal satisfaction of setting my own hours, taking care of my daughter and taking great care of my clients too are a few of the rewards. Helping other women build their own businesses is what I do with the support of other Mary Kay professionals.

Who do you know that wants unlimited income, flexible hours and a work environment with happy people? I’d love to help them join me on my journey to enrich other women’s lives. Garden Art

The Oconto Falls Friends of the Library are having their first ever Summer Garden Art Silent Auction. The event includes donated items from a number of local artist and wanna be artists. Four of the top 8th grade students at Washington Middle School got into the act as a last minute “Final Project.” Using a classic cracked shovel that had seen better days, they turned it into a metal and wood canvas for their creativity. Working with WMS Art Teacher Karen Knoerzer, they shared in work to transform the old tool into something that will have a cherished place in the lucky highest bidder’s home.

This piece and several other items will be on display for bidding at the Oconto Falls Community Library beginning June 10. It’s worth stopping by to say ‘Hi” and check out one of your favorite books for summer reading. For more information, contact Friends of the Library President Amy Dessart or Librarian Joan Denis at the Oconto Falls Community Library at (920) 846-2673.

Oconto Falls Assisted Living Facility, The MeadowLands, Acquired by The Cottages Investment Group, LLC

The former MeadowLands Assisted Living Facility has been renamed to The Cottages at Meadowlands, under the new ownership of The Cottages Investment Group, LLC.

Oconto Falls, WI – The Cottages Investment Group, LLC out of Shawano, WI is pleased to announce the acquisition of The MeadowLands Assisted Living Facility in Oconto Falls. The investment group, which also owns and operates The Cottages on Golden Pond Assisted Living and Memory Care in Shawano, plans to operate the MeadowLands under the new name of The Cottages at MeadowLands, as of Friday, May 30th, 2014. The MeadowLands has been a long time provider of excellent care in Oconto County and The Cottages has done the same for Shawano County the last 5 years.

Cara Peterson, General Manager of the Shawano facility, is excited to take on the new endeavor of adding The Cottages at MeadowLands to her managing portfolio. Peterson, who is originally from Oconto Falls, spoke of the acquisition, “I’ve managed The MeadowLands in the past, and now return home with gained knowledge and continued strong beliefs in providing excellent care for those who are in need of intermediate care in a home-like apartment setting. I believe in working together as health care professionals and a community, to create a healthy living atmosphere for loved ones.”

The Cottages will operate the current MeadowLands facility as a licensed and certified Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC), and plans to break ground on a new Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) later this summer, that will focus on dementia care. “We are very excited to bring our high level of care toOconto Falls, and in doing so, create jobs and service the needs of the local market,” stated Wade T. Micoley, Owner & President of The Cottages Investment Group, LLC.

Once approved, the new facility will be built adjacent to the current Assisted Living facility at 751 E. Highland Drive in Oconto Falls, WI, and focus on dementia care, specifically Alzheimer’s disease. Expanding the location to include a safe home environment for those with memory loss, the Memory Care programs and caregivers will provide the daily balance needed to help each person live an active, enjoyable life within safe surroundings.

Peterson briefly spoke about the impact the CBRF Memory Care facility will have on the Oconto Falls area, “Alzheimer’s has touched my family, like it has so many others, and that makes this new facility even more important to our community. I am very proud to bring this area of healthcare into Oconto Falls. Working closely with the area chapter of The Alzheimer’s Association we will be able to bring innovative treatments and techniques to our residents and their families.”

Although a diagnosis of dementia is not required for admission to new The Memory Care, the staff will be specially trained to accommodate the needs of those with mild to moderate memory problems. Short term stays, respite and hospice care will be available also. The Care Team will be trained under the strict guidelines of the State of Wisconsin for this type of care facility. All medication management is directed by licensed professionals.

“Our staff take pride in the reputation they have built for The Cottages of Shawano, and this will be no-doubt the same at The Cottages at MeadowLands. We all do this for one reason; To make life healthier and easier for elderly and their families in our community. Our Tenants and their children trust us to provide the best care possible. And we do a very good job at that,” also stated Peterson. In addition to the exceptional, 24-hour staff, all The Cottages facilities also offer Nursing visits, and in-house podiatry, therapy, home health, in-house x-ray and ultrasound, and hospice care.

The Keys Please

Chamber Takes Delivery 5.22.14Unlike the process at Peterson Ford or any other auto dealership when the ignition keys are handed over to the proud new vehicle owner, the keys with this delivery were to the hitch lock.

Taking those keys was Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce President Gail Yatso and the vehicle was the custom built trailer that will be part of the grand prize ATV package given away at the Falls Fest raffle on September 28th.

The trailer was built by seniors in the advanced welding class at Oconto Falls High School. The trailer features a removable kayak rack that could also be used for ladders, lumber, or other long items. The beautiful wood deck of the trailer is a combination of cherry and oak and is car show truck bed quality.

The wood was donated by John Senn of Senn Landscaping. Tires and tire mounting were donated by Peterson Ford.

The tailgate is an unique fold down design that adds versatility to the trailer. The custom designed trailer came out so well that a second one is being fabricated as another end of the year project and will be offered for sale by the OFHS Tech Ed Department.

River Island Golf Course announces Junior Golf League

1510827_sRegistration has opened for a newly formed Junior Golf League. League will be open to golfers entering 6th grade in fall of 2014 up to 19 years old. Youth lessons will also be available for beginner golfers.

“This Junior Golf League will be a recreational league that will promote a social and fun way to experience the game of golf and enjoy this great course that we are so lucky to have here in Oconto Falls”, says league director Beth Jaeger.

Junior golf league will take place Thursdays from June 12 through July 31. Members will enjoy discounted fees, games, end of the year awards and banquet and golf clinics. The RIGC kitchen will serve up food specials every Thursday, helping to ensure the kids will have an enjoyable and affordable time.

Trailer Partnership

Through a unusual partnership between the Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and the Oconto Falls High School Tech Ed Department, several area businesses and communities will have a chance to see a great example of the design and fabrication work being done in that department. As part of the Chamber’s community Falls Fest celebration at the end of September there will be a major raffle of a Cabelas ATV, kayaks, and many other related items.

The idea was to have a trailer that would be part of the prize package and could be parked at various businesses and used in community parades during the summer leading up to the celebration at the end of September. It was suggested that the OFHS Tech Ed Department could build one of their custom trailers for the event to help promote their work. Taking it a step further, it would be great if the trailer could be designed to have a kayak rack that could also display those prizes as part of the display. OFHS Welding Instructor Tom Karban jumped on the idea and put his students to work designing and fabricating the custom trailer. Peterson Ford partnered with donating tires for the trailer, and John Senn of Senn Landscaping donated the decking for the trailer. The design/fabrication team included students Cole Nowinski, Jordon Neshek, Brian Peters, Nathan VanArk, Scott Anderson, Forest Rohr, Nicholas Gering, and Dillon Curl. The challenge was to put the trailer together and out the door to the paint shop so that it could be debuted in the Oconto Falls Memorial Day parade on May 26th. The parade will offer the first “up close” look at this custom trailer.
