Video contest!!! – Run For the Trails

runnersVideo contest!!! Grab your cellphone, camera or video camera & shoot a creative, fun, funny or motivational video encouraging people to sign up for the Run for the Trails Run/Walk on Sept. 28 & you could win!!!

The Run for the Trails is a 10k, 5k or 1 mile fun run on Sept. 28th in Oconto Falls. The run is a fundraiser to help establish a fund to create, maintain and improve a trail system in the Oconto Falls area. Some areas we are looking at starting work on is around the schools, like along County I and along Columbia St. by the new football fields. If you have been on some recreational trails before like the Fox River Trail, you can imagine the possibilities, nice wide paved trails that connect to already established sidewalk systems. We would hope to add embellishments such as sidewalks, landscape areas, possibly even fitness stations and signs. Our committee also hopes to work with the City and State on getting sidewalks in where it makes sense to have them as well, further connecting the trail system.

What we want from you is a video encouraging people to sign up for this AWESOME RUN/WALK EVENT! You can highlight the purpose of the event as a fundraiser for the Trail fund, you can go at it from a fitness angle, like how awesome it is to run/walk & be fit, or how much FUN the event will be, whatever you think… be creative, funny, etc. The website to register for the run if you can incorporate that any way possible, as well as so that you can go to the site for more info is: https://runforthetrails.eventbrite.com

Videos should be 30 seconds or less and have appropriate content. All videos may be shared via email, websites, Facebook, Twitter and various other social media. All submissions must be received to annsennhome@yahoo.com no later than midnight August 25th. The winner will be chosen August 26th, and that winner will receive a free entry into the event as well as an event tech shirt, and lots of publicity for their video 🙂

Good luck & have fun making the video!

Abrams Theatre Presents “The Fox on the Fairway”

fox_lgAbrams Spotlight Productions, Inc. will present, The Fox on the Fairway (Book by Ken Ludwig) August 8, 2014 – August 17, 2014 at The Byng Community Theater in Abrams.

A tribute to the great English farces of the 1930’s and 1940’s, The Fox on the Fairway takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers’ classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man’s eternal love affair with…golf.

Opening night is Friday, August 8 at 7:00pm. Abrams Spotlight Productions, Inc. will be celebrating by having an Opening Night Gala. Patrons that attend opening night will receive complimentary hors d’oeuvres and drinks after the show (with the cast and crew).

Would it surprise you to know that the story of Rapunzel happened in France? Well it didn’t really, but our story takes you on a frivolous frolic through the French countryside. The Ogres garden in the Mushroom patch while the Corn and Potato spies report back to Madame Gothel. Frenchy and his intense friends, the Wood Elves, do their best to help Rapunzel escape the grasp of Madame Gothel. The lost Prince, Rapunzel’s Parents, and her friends the Unicorns try to help. Just when you think it’s safe to cross the bridge a Troll and Three Billy Goats Gruff get in the way. It doesn’t help that the Three Bears (or is it four) confuse Rapunzel with Goldilocks and chase her through the forest. Add to that the Gremlins trying to play tricks on everyone and you have chaos! Well, it’s not that bad because the Pixies foil the Gremlin’s plans most of the time. In short, Rapunzel and all the rest of the characters tell a silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.

Tickets: $33

For decades, renowned newspaper advice columnist Ann Landers responded to countless questions from lovelorn teens, confused couples, and a multitude of others in need of advice on matters small and momentous – like the proper way to hang toilet paper rolls. This one-woman show provides a compelling portrait of this folksy, funny, frank, and slightly eccentric writer and personality.

Eppie Lederer was born in Sioux City,Iowa, and for several years was a happy Midwestern housewife. When her family moved to Chicago, she applied for a job to assist the woman writing the syndicated “Ann Landers” advice column for the Chicago Sun-Times. But the woman had just died and Eppie was hired to write the column … and she also inherited the Ann Landers pen-name. At the height of her popularity, Ann Landers was read by some 90 million people. Her daily dialog with America helped shape the social landscape for almost half a century. For adult audiences only.

John DenverJOHN DENVER MUSICAL TRIBUTE starring Ted Vigil
SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 2015
2 PM
Falls Area Performing Arts Center
Tickets: $38

The legendary John Denver evokes memories of an era in music which was both inspiring and influential. His music was a combination of romance -Annie’s Song; folk – Leavin’ on a Jet Plane; country – Thank God I’m a Country Boy; and environmentalist – Calypso. He recorded nearly 300 songs, 200 of which he composed, which led to 12 gold and 4 platinum albums; he was also awarded an Emmy and two Grammy’s. He was a brilliant song writer and a truly gifted performer. And his music lives on.

Ted Vigil, a man who, according to long-time Denver guitar accompanist Steve Weisberg, closely resembles John both physically and musically, is carrying on the tradition honoring this colossal music icon. Steve now accompanies Ted and is happy to once again be bringing the great compositions and hits of John Denver to audiences via a quality interpreter of Denver’s music.

Ted is not an impersonator, but rather sings a tribute to this great man. People miss John Denver; Ted Vigil is doing his best to pay homage. His gift for the music and polished and energetic performing style presents a warm and delightful evening through some of the world’s most popular music.

June DNR Report

IMG_0327The warm weather has greatly increased recreational boating activity on lakes, and conservation wardens are reminding boaters of rules in place to avoid the spread of aquatic invasive species. Boaters must remove all plants from boats and trailers and drain all water from live sells and bilges before leaving a boat landing.

Bluegill spawning is winding down in the south with fish moving off nests. Panfishing has been good at many locations. Fishing for catfish has been very good in the last week on the Mississippi, Wisconsin, Rock, Chippewa, Fox, and Oconto rivers and many spots along Green Bay. Lake Winnebago anglers were still reporting some limits of walleye, along with good numbers of sheepshead, white bass and crappie. A husband and wife out trolling landed a 15.5 inch black crappie last Monday.

Smallmouth bass action has really picked up on Green Bay with bass being caught at many locations on the bay and lake side. On Sunday, two anglers reported catching 60 smallmouth in six hours, a rate of 10 fish per hour. Lake Michigan trollers report fish have become more spread out and are moving into deeper water, but good populations of alewife also continue to keep fish near shore. Most report a mixed bag of rainbows, coho and chinook.

Whitetail deer fawns are now starting to move around more and there have been increasing reports of vehicle deer collisions, so be alert for deer and if a deer crosses the road watch for a young fawn that could be following. The recent warm and moist weather has resulted in large hatches of mosquitoes and biting flies being reported across the state, but especially in the north. The bugs aren’t only bothersome to people but also to wildlife. There have been reports of loons in the north being driven off their nests by the biting flies. In Vilas and Onedia counties there are estimates that 70 to 80 percent of loons have abandoned nests due to extremely high black fly numbers. Deer being seen during the day using open areas seeking breezier spots to escape the stings and bites.

Flowers currently blooming include wild rose, wild geranium spiderwort, columbine, wild lily-of-the-valley, and blue bead lily. Lady’s slippers are blooming in Door County and spiderwort, golden alexander, flowering spurge, and puccoons are all in flower in the prairies. Butterfly numbers are starting to peak including pearl crescent, little wood satyr, black, eastern tiger and giant swallowtails, viceroy, monarch and silver-spotted skippers. There have also been many hatches of dragonflies including many kinds of skimmers and dot-tailed whiteface and green darner.
