Would it surprise you to know that the story of Rapunzel happened in France? Well it didn’t really, but our story takes you on a frivolous frolic through the French countryside. The Ogres garden in the Mushroom patch while the Corn and Potato spies report back to Madame Gothel. Frenchy and his intense friends, the Wood Elves, do their best to help Rapunzel escape the grasp of Madame Gothel. The lost Prince, Rapunzel’s Parents, and her friends the Unicorns try to help. Just when you think it’s safe to cross the bridge a Troll and Three Billy Goats Gruff get in the way. It doesn’t help that the Three Bears (or is it four) confuse Rapunzel with Goldilocks and chase her through the forest. Add to that the Gremlins trying to play tricks on everyone and you have chaos! Well, it’s not that bad because the Pixies foil the Gremlin’s plans most of the time. In short, Rapunzel and all the rest of the characters tell a silly tale of personal triumph and friendship.

For decades, renowned newspaper advice columnist Ann Landers responded to countless questions from lovelorn teens, confused couples, and a multitude of others in need of advice on matters small and momentous – like the proper way to hang toilet paper rolls. This one-woman show provides a compelling portrait of this folksy, funny, frank, and slightly eccentric writer and personality.

Eppie Lederer was born in Sioux City,Iowa, and for several years was a happy Midwestern housewife. When her family moved to Chicago, she applied for a job to assist the woman writing the syndicated “Ann Landers” advice column for the Chicago Sun-Times. But the woman had just died and Eppie was hired to write the column … and she also inherited the Ann Landers pen-name. At the height of her popularity, Ann Landers was read by some 90 million people. Her daily dialog with America helped shape the social landscape for almost half a century. For adult audiences only.

John DenverJOHN DENVER MUSICAL TRIBUTE starring Ted Vigil
SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 2015
2 PM
Falls Area Performing Arts Center
Tickets: $38

The legendary John Denver evokes memories of an era in music which was both inspiring and influential. His music was a combination of romance -Annie’s Song; folk – Leavin’ on a Jet Plane; country – Thank God I’m a Country Boy; and environmentalist – Calypso. He recorded nearly 300 songs, 200 of which he composed, which led to 12 gold and 4 platinum albums; he was also awarded an Emmy and two Grammy’s. He was a brilliant song writer and a truly gifted performer. And his music lives on.

Ted Vigil, a man who, according to long-time Denver guitar accompanist Steve Weisberg, closely resembles John both physically and musically, is carrying on the tradition honoring this colossal music icon. Steve now accompanies Ted and is happy to once again be bringing the great compositions and hits of John Denver to audiences via a quality interpreter of Denver’s music.

Ted is not an impersonator, but rather sings a tribute to this great man. People miss John Denver; Ted Vigil is doing his best to pay homage. His gift for the music and polished and energetic performing style presents a warm and delightful evening through some of the world’s most popular music.

Garden Art

The Oconto Falls Friends of the Library are having their first ever Summer Garden Art Silent Auction. The event includes donated items from a number of local artist and wanna be artists. Four of the top 8th grade students at Washington Middle School got into the act as a last minute “Final Project.” Using a classic cracked shovel that had seen better days, they turned it into a metal and wood canvas for their creativity. Working with WMS Art Teacher Karen Knoerzer, they shared in work to transform the old tool into something that will have a cherished place in the lucky highest bidder’s home.

This piece and several other items will be on display for bidding at the Oconto Falls Community Library beginning June 10. It’s worth stopping by to say ‘Hi” and check out one of your favorite books for summer reading. For more information, contact Friends of the Library President Amy Dessart or Librarian Joan Denis at the Oconto Falls Community Library at (920) 846-2673.

The Keys Please

Chamber Takes Delivery 5.22.14Unlike the process at Peterson Ford or any other auto dealership when the ignition keys are handed over to the proud new vehicle owner, the keys with this delivery were to the hitch lock.

Taking those keys was Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce President Gail Yatso and the vehicle was the custom built trailer that will be part of the grand prize ATV package given away at the Falls Fest raffle on September 28th.

The trailer was built by seniors in the advanced welding class at Oconto Falls High School. The trailer features a removable kayak rack that could also be used for ladders, lumber, or other long items. The beautiful wood deck of the trailer is a combination of cherry and oak and is car show truck bed quality.

The wood was donated by John Senn of Senn Landscaping. Tires and tire mounting were donated by Peterson Ford.

The tailgate is an unique fold down design that adds versatility to the trailer. The custom designed trailer came out so well that a second one is being fabricated as another end of the year project and will be offered for sale by the OFHS Tech Ed Department.

Abrams Theater Auditions

fox_lg

Abrams Spotlight Productions, Inc. will be holding open auditions for their next play, The Fox on the Fairway (Book by Ken Ludwig) on May 8 & 9, 2014 – 6:00pm-8:00pm at The Byng Community Theater, 5852 Maple Street, Abrams.

A tribute to the great English farces of the 1930’s and 1940’s, The Fox on the Fairway takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers’ classics. A charmingly madcap adventure about love, life, and man’s eternal love affair with…golf.

Actors age 18 and older are welcome to audition. Auditions will be cold readings from the script. You must audition in order to be in the show, no late entries will be allowed. Rehearsals will generally be on Sunday and Thursday nights beginning in May. Show dates are scheduled for August 8-10 & 15-17, 2014. Please consider your availability for all rehearsals and show dates, and your level of commitment before auditioning. The group is also looking for volunteers to serve as Backstage and Front of House Crew as well. For more information call Brandon Byng at (920) 826-5852 or visit www.AbramsTheatre.com.
