Many events are held year round to guarantee a day of family fun and within a short drive for most of Northeast Wisconsin.
Memorial Day kicks off the summer season in Oconto Falls with a weekend-long celebration including a parade, baseball tournament, car show and carnival.
In the fall, the City holds Fall Fun Fest weekend starting with townwide rummage sales and ending with a youth football tournament.
Other area events include Copperfest in June in Oconto, the Oconto County Fair in August in Gillett and Dairyfest in September in Lena.
Visitors coming to Oconto Falls have many recreational options in any season.
During the heat of the summer, there is no better place to be than the beach.
Oconto Falls manages two public beaches on the Oconto River for use by residents and non-residents.
One is located on the West side and the other on the East side of the City and are aptly named the West Side Beach and East Side Beach.
The East Side Beach has a fully accessible and well-maintained boat launch area for boaters and fishing enthusiasts.
In the winter, the water front at both beach locations becomes populated with ice fishing shanties, and the river becomes part of the local snowmobile club trail.
Horseback riding or cross country skiing are options when entering the Machickanee Forest. There are over 25 miles of horseback riding trails. Cross country ski trails are available for both the beginner and more advanced skier. These scenic ski trails are maintained by the Machickanee Cross Country Ski Club. Both activities are free and open to all.
If golf is your game, then look no further than Oconto Falls and the surrounding area. Within the City is River Island Golf Course, a 9-hole public golf course that opened in 1965. The clubhouse features many amenities, and leagues are active during the summer season.
Other area 9-hole courses include Pine Acres Golf Course in Abrams and Oconto Golf Club in Oconto. Sandalwood Golf Course in Abrams is an 18-hole course.
When looking for entertainment rather than recreation, the choices in Oconto Falls are exceptional. First is the 750-seat Performing Arts Center (PAC) that offers premium entertainment in a number of venues.
The Friends of the Arts, a local organization that builds the performance schedule and creatively supports the financial needs of the PAC, has retained acts such as Gaelic Storm and An Evening with Groucho, Big Top Chautauqua, George Winston and more over the last 10 years.
In addition, a children’s theatre event is held each August, and a Steinway concert with local and national/international talent is showcased each May.
On Golden Pond
Clue (the Musical)
Drive a little further south to Abrams and catch the entertainment at Abrams Spotlight Productions, Inc. at The Byng Community Theater. Put on strictly by local talent, each season the theatre hosts an extravaganza of plays and musicals.
The troupe has put on such shows as Clue: The Musical, On Golden Pond, Seussical The Musical and Into The Woods. From humble beginnings of putting on plays at the local town hall, this organization now offers great entertainment at a superb value.
