12th Annual Region Two Lions Golf Outing

In spite of an early threat of unfavorable weather, the 12th Annual Region Two Lions Golf Outing concluded under warm sunshine at Desmidt’s Golf Course and Country in the beautiful hills outside of Crivitz. In its 12 year run, over $35,000 has been raised to support activities at the Wisconsin Lions Camp, thanks to the the Region Lions and many other supporters in Northeast Wisconsin.

Local Lions clubs, businesses, individuals, and organizations provided hole sponsorships, raffle prizes, and other support of the popular outing.

This year’s personalized championship mugs were carried off by “Bob’s Team” made up of Bob Hoyer, Matthew Thiel, Jeff Ott, and Kurt Mueller. Their 4 person scramble score of 58 put them at the top of the leader board.

Only one stroke behind, the “Wausaukee Lions #2” team picked up second place honors. Golfers Tom Miller, Gary Polzin, Brian Wiltzios, and David Wiltzios played a great game to earn the runner up engraved glasses.

Kicking off the award program over lunch in the clubhouse was the presentation of two Ray Hempel Fellowships, one to Lion Jane Fritz and another to Lion Gerald Kallenbach. Both have been very active with the Region Two Golf Outing since the early years.

Ray Hempel was the spark behind the founding of Wisconsin Lions Camp and served as the first Camp Director. The Lions Pride Endowment Fund established the Ray Hempel Fellowship.as a fitting tribute to recognize and celebrate an individual’s unique accomplishments, extraordinary dedication, support and service to others.

The Region Two Lions extend their thanks to the staff, at Desmidt’s, the golfers, volunteers, and all the others who helped this year’s event another in the long line of successes. Mother Nature deserves special mention for holding off the rain.
